We have some problems with clipping planes in Slate 1.5. When we want to change the original clipping plane in the cameras shots, they are not taken in effect in the render camera, and then after a play, it resets the changed value back to start. It is impossible to change directly the values in the render camera, or animate the camera shots properties in a track (no changes in render camera). Please help us.
The camera settings in the Camera Shots do not really have any effect and they are not used.
What you need to do instead is to change the clipping planes of the Render Camera directly. Notice though, that there is an option called “Match Main” on the Director Camera Root, which if enabled, the Render Camera settings will be copied from the MainCamera in the scene if any. Thus you need to disable this option if you are to use the camera settings on the Render Camera.
Alternatively, you could leave this option enabled and change the clipping planes on the MainCamera in the scene.
So, to summarize, you can either:
– Change the MainCamera clipping planes and leave “Match Main” ON. (this will use the camera settings on MainCamera).
– Change the RenderCamera clipping planes and turn “Match Main” OFF. (this will use the camera settings on RenderCamera).
In fact, there are still problems.
When ‘Match Main’ is off, clipping values of render camera are not used. The only way to fix the problem is to change the values of the real render camera, by hand at runtime, which is quite annoying.
If ‘Match Main’ is on, the render camera values do not reflect values of main camera (always .01 and 1000), then the Near Clipping plane of the main camera is resetted to 0.01, after play.
Clipping values of original cameras shots, even if they are not used, are resetted to 0.01, after play.
There definitely seems to be something wrong here, since that is not how it is supposed to work.
The MainCamera settings are never modified by Slate in any way (unless of course you have added it to an Actor Group which I don’t see why).
The Camera Shot clipping planes are indeed resetted, but once again, they are not really ever used except for editor previews.
As for the Render Camera, it should work as explained in previous post depending on Match Main option.
Hmm. Are you modifying the clipping planes of the Render Camera manually while the cutscene is in preview mode (not stopped)?
We are working on big environment scenes, where there are visual bugs for decals or very close polygons due to small near clipping values.
So, yes, we modify these values in runtime for rendering.
Do you modify clipping planes while the cutscene is playing? If you modify them before the cutscene begins play everything should work fine. I can’t seem to reproduce a case where clipping planes are not working as described above.
Can you please send me a small reproduction case to support@paradoxnotion.com to see exactly what you are doing and what is going wrong?
Is that possible?
Thanks!
