Hello there,
It looks like when “Random Seed” is on and you go to sample the particles, it just keeps on randomly selecting a new seed over and over making it go crazy.
Is there a way to keep random seed on but make it not keep refreshing it? I have tons and tons of particles and systems that may or may not have random seed on, I would hate to have to go through each part of everyone and turn them all off just to make it calm down.
Things worked right if I just hit play and then played the cinematic, I am guessing now that I have been playing around with it more, that is the way you just have to / are supposed to do some things? Not everything is supposed to be done while still in edit mode?
Hello and sorry for the late reply due to summer vacation.
Hmm. If you are using the latest version of Slate, the action clip “Sample Particle System”, should automatically disable the “Random Seed”. This is done exactly for the reasons you stated, because in edit mode and to keep the editor preview being deterministic and as close as possible to what you will get in play mode, the random seed is disabled and instead a fixed seed is used. This also avoid the problem with particles going crazy.
Thus, I would strongly suggest keeping the “Random Seed” disabled and use a fixed seed instead, since there is not much of an advantage using a random seed anyway 🙂
Thanks for the reply. No worries about it being late, hope you had a good vacation. As for the issue, I definitely was using the newest version but unfortunately for some reason, it did not automatically disable it for me, I had to go into each emitter within my systems and disable them. Though, once I did, everything worked fine (minus certain systems only would work in play mode).
Thank you! I hope you had a great time as well 🙂
I will do a double check on this and make sure that there isn’t any bug preventing the particle system’s random seed from being disabled.
Thank for letting me know!
